A Simi Valley man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his motorcycle rearended a truck on Highway 118 near Santa Clara Avenue just outside of Oxnard, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The unidentified 57-year-old man was traveling westbound on Highway 118 in his motorcycle at around 1:50 p.m. when he apparently rearended the right side of a truck, said CHP Officer Steve Reid.

The driver of the truck fled from the scene, Reid said.

"Based on the debris left by the vehicle, it looks like it could possible be a burgundy Ford F150 pickup truck," Reid said. "That truck should have damage to its rear right side."

The motorcyclist was rushed to St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Oxnard where he was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m. Officials are withholding his identity pending notifying next of kin.

Pieces of the silver Harley Davidsons handlebars, windshield and debris from the truck littered the two-lane highway as CHP officers diverted traffic. The motorcyclist's black boots was thrown a few feet away from where the motorcycle landed on the side of the highway.

CHP is treating the accident as a crime scene since the driver of the vehicle fled the area, Reid said.

"It's a violation of the law to leave an accident without exchanging information or calling authorities," he said.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the Ventura County office of the CHP at 477-4100.
