Canada - MONTREAL, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- More than 100 police officers across Canada were involved in the arrest of 46 men Thursday for alleged involvement in an international cocaine smuggling ring.
Arrests were made from Vancouver east into Quebec, where police allege the Hells Angels motorcycle gang was distributing it, The (Montreal) Gazette reported.
Authorities said the investigation that began in September 2006 tracked thousands of pounds of cocaine being driven from Mexico through the western United States into British Columbia, and then east to Montreal, the report said.
The investigation was conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Revenue Quebec and the Quebec provincial police.
The majority of charges were for trafficking to possession for the purposes of trafficking, the Ottawa Citizen reported.
About half of the people arrested made first court appearances in Montreal and Ottawa, the reports said.
