Australia - THREE men were yesterday accused of trying to kill a member of the Rebels Motorcycle Club at the group's Carrara clubhouse more than a year ago.
Jamie John Ciardi, 33, of Pacific Pines, Ahmet Dogan, 39, of Broadbeach Waters, and Shane Michael Oulds, 36, of the Sunshine Coast all appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday charged with attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
It is alleged an internal dispute led to Mr Oulds shooting fellow Rebels Motorcycle Club member Mark Allan Ashworth, 39, in the back of the leg about 7pm on October 9 last year.
Mr Ciardi is alleged to have made encouraging comments during the incident and Mr Dogan is charged with using a firearm to violently rob Mr Ashworth on the same night.
Mr Ciardi is also charged with possession of amphetamines allegedly found during a search of his home on Wednesday this week.
Last year, police investigating the incident said the alleged victim arrived at the Gold Coast Hospital about 8pm with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg but declined to make a statement.
Defence lawyers for the accused men yesterday told the court Mr Ashworth, of Edens Landing, had only recently made a complaint and there was no other evidence against their clients.
During a bail application for Mr Oulds the court was told he had a strong alibi, placing him on the Sunshine Coast at the time of the shooting.
The court was also told Mr Oulds, who runs an import/export business in Brisbane, had distanced himself from the Rebels since the alleged shooting and could offer a surety of up to $100,000.
Lawyers for Mr Ciardi, who has lived on the Gold Coast with his family for about 12 months, also applied for bail, saying his alleged involvement was being present for the shooting and making the comments.
The court was told the attempted murder case against Mr Ciardi, a self-employed tip truck operator, was very weak, as was evidence identifying him.
He also offered a surety of up to $100,000.
Both Mr Ciardi and Mr Oulds were refused bail and will reappear for committal mention in February.
Mr Dogan did not apply for bail and his case will be mentioned on December 11.
