Answers:

  1. Running sooty at the plugs is not always a carburetor problem. If that carburetor has been running good for the last 21 years...it's more than likely your problem may lie somewhere else. Not sure whether your carburetor is a CV or a butterfly Keihin. Catch me up...and anything else you've done to your ride just before you noticed this.

  2. the bike belongs to a member with the club, I will be out at his place next week and I will get some more info on details, thanks. By: Guest on: 5-18-2009

  3. Check ignition timing. Check for weak spark from ignition coil. Does it blow a lot of black smoke from the tailpipe at idle? If so, you may have a carb problem. If not, probably ignition related. Is there any oily residue on the plugs? If so, check compression. By: woodsman416 on: 5-21-2009

  4. Valve guides may be worn time for a top end. By: Guest on: 5-27-2009
