Make of Bike: HD
Model of Bike FLHTCUI
Year of Bike 2007
Engine Size 96
Other info on Bike starter
What's your question? It don't work!!!!!!!!!
Details: Bought bike in Aug 07 have put about 20,000 on it. Starter first acted up in Boston, then Oregon, replaced it in San Diego, Ca. Went to ride bike Sunday click click dead ass starter plenty of battery, weak ass sounding solinode. Well fiddled with it some said fuck it took it to dealer sice under 2 year warrenty. They have messed with it all day on and off. Starter is fine off bike, put back on bike starter fine. The starters only ground at the starter housing. Figure the starter bolts had backed off a bit, letting corrosion and dirt build up between starter housing and starter. Too much resistance for the starter to overcome. Will be putting a ground wire on starter. Should cure most problem. Concerned that starter mounting bolts had backed off a hair. Hello anyone ever heard of red lock tite. Well more of the continuing saga of the new starter issues as they develope. Keep the shiny side on a thirty degree angle and cut the curves hard.

  1. mark, yes i have a tube of red lock tite. i had a prob with battery terminals working loose with vibration on a sporty so i put a couple of spring washers on with the battery nuts and they took up the vibration and i never had them come loose again. By: biggles on: 4-5-2007

  2. oops forgot to post follow up, been out riding. Well I got the bike back, they held to the story that the startewr was a bit loose and not grounding to the frame. Now for the good news. It runs. It starts. They did the computer down load, bike runs much cooler, infact I was a bit cold on it the other day. Power curve "feels" much smoother. The motor seems to pull stronger through all the gears and does not seem to lug as easily. Makes me a happy camper. Oh yeah and they got rid of the potato sound as it idled. That was one ofthe "selling" points when I got the bike the potato was back. I asked the dealer why the hell they programed in a miss at idle when I bought the bike. The answer was the factory thought it was cool. Bullshit they had it so lean for the EPA and CARB that the poor motor ewas just starving for fuel. By: Mark_Goff on: 4-17-2007
