- You asked this two weeks ago and didn't get an answer. The reason being that diagnosing "sounds" over the internet is pretty "iffy" when it comes to engine noises.
You can buy yourself a mechanic's stethoscope (cheap investment) and search the source out yourself...or like you say...have someone who knows what they're doing either trace the noise out or tear the engine down and diagnose it that way. If it were a Shovel, or earlier, I'd say readjust the front cylinder exhaust pushrod.

- My 95 did something like this and then I started to notice it would lose a bit of power or stumble and then pick back up to normal once in a great while at speed. I pulled the tappet oil supply screen and found it had accumulated some sludge. I removed the sludge (non magnetic) and it's back to normal. I'll probably replace the tappets with some good after market ones this winter. When I first got my bike I heard a noise in the front cyclinder like a lite ticking. I read that Evo engines are known to make a this noise in the front cylinder. 60,000 miles no problems. By: Zombie on: 10-15-2007
