1.7:1 rockers

This is just for knowledge not necesarily for immediate use. I understand a cam with .300 lift is .480 with stock rockers. If I put in 1.7:1 rockers lift is then .510? Is this a good move. Is it any different than just putting in a .510 lift cam? It must change all duration numbers also. You will reach .053 sooner. So it seams like just getting a higher lift longer dur cam. And puts more stress on lifters, cam etc.. (although it might not be much). They are no cheaper than a cam they are sold each for 50.00 and up. Why would you do this? |
Answers:
- I don't see any problems with the 1.7:1 rocker ratio. Harley did the same thing when they went from the panhead to the shovelhead. It's just another way to sell aftermarket parts, IMO. Be advised though...that type of shift in leverage puts more stress on the rest of the valvetrain - where adding a higher lift cam would cause less stress.
In my opinion...it's marketing. I'd say it's tageted at those who'd like to keep the cam profile they now have and just increase the lift. By: 47Knuckle-Dragger on: 10-17-2007
