What's your question? testing ignition components
Details: is there a way to test the ignition module and the coil to see if they are defective/breaking down?? cant afford to just replace them if they are not broke...bike rean great for 350 miles...when I strarted home I got about 15 miles and lost all spark, still strong battery... started up and another 8 miles, same thing...the distances got shorter between shutdowns until I had to just haul it to some friends house..opinions welcome...

  1. gotta be honest ,i had similar prob with a 92 sporty .i messed around for ages with it and finally paid a mobile auto electrician to come to my house .he found 3 small electrical wire breakdowns ,fixed them all ,cost $80 not had a prob since [sold it now ] unless you get lucky and spot the prob it just aint worth the hassle of keep breaking down .best get someone to look at it that specialises in electrics. i have fixed elec probs many times in the past but no way did i realise i had 3 wire seperate wire probs. 2. Run a hot wire and ground wire straight from the battery to the brain. If that fixes your problem, don't settle for it being ok. Find the broken wires and fix them. Also check your circuit breaker, if it is old and weak it will pop then reset. gwet hot again pop then reset. not the same as your ignition fuse. By: MarkGoff on: 5-30-2008

  3. I would definitely agree on the circuit breaker. Also feel the coil when the bike cuts off. If it is really hot the odds are the ignition module is overheating it. By: RattFXR on: 6-9-2008
