| What's your question? |
Does anyone have info if this alcohol/gas mixture will affect hot starting?
|
| Details: |
Sometimes, my bike acts like the starter is dying or timing is off after I've ridden a while. I've heard that this alcohol mixture will make them run hot. |
Answers:
- Your starter dragging and your concerns over heat are two different problems. I suggest you charge up the battery, take it to any auto parts store and have them load test it. If it passes the load test then check all your contacts for corrosion; corrosion eats up amperage; amperage is the horsepower of electricity.
For the fuel, Harley-Davidson approves E10 and E15 fuels. In fact, E10 and E15 leaves less of a carbon trail on the combustion chamber and the piston than straight gasoline - so carbon buildup leading to higher compression and more starter drag is almost unheard of...unless the carbon buildup is from piston-ring blow-by. E85 is a different story. In order to run E85 you'll have to have someone who knows their way around a dyno spend most of the day experimenting and remapping. Then you'll have to run E85 every time you fill up. By: 47Knuckle-Dragger on: 9-3-2010
