- All twin cam motors have a valve train noise somewhere between 2000 rpm and 2500 rpm. I'm not sure why they do it, but they all do it. Is that the rpm range where you hear the noise? By: Guest on: 1-7-2011
- No it's not that.It only does it at a stop. And not all the time. It's like (fuck what was that)then it's gone. By: swag on: 1-7-2011
- A hydraulic lifter may be collasping intermitenly. First thing always is good quality oil. By: grizzly08 on: 1-8-2011
- If all else is OK, ride the shit out it! I have a 2002 fxst with 144k yes that's right, sports fans! I had to get used to the different sounds but all is well

- Dont Buy a Harley if you dont want ticking and valve train noises. They ALL make noises...otherwise just ride it and enjoy By: Guest on: 1-11-2011
- '02 FXDX-T, I got the same noise. Had it since I got the bike. My friends call it "Twinkie Talk". Only one shop has had what I thought was sensable. Something about "end play" on the top end. I am not an engine person, I do chassis and suspensions. I need/want to learn more. By: Catnip on: 1-14-2011
- Valve ticking on a twin cam is prettyt much inherent. I haven't come accross one that doesen't have a little valve noise. Just my two cents wworth. By: Guest on: 1-16-2011
- Are you using an oil filter designed for a twin cam? The twin cam motor is the first Harley motor that filters the oil BEFORE it goes through the engine. It has a flap inside to keep oil from running back out of the filter. I can imagine, you come to an idle, oil pressure drops, oil runs back out of the filter, and you get a ticking until the oil pressure comes back up. By: Guest on: 1-17-2011
- Okay, this is turning into a discussion. I heard about keeping the idle up because of oil pressure at low RPMs. Would a higher volume oil pump fix this oiling issue at low RPM's? By: Catnip on: 1-17-2011
- Had same problem. Could be bad cam. By: harley11 on: 2-2-2011
- I bought a 2k fxdx, low mi. I plan on updating to S.E. cam gear (like on 2007) necessitates changing oil pump to higher flowing unit. I think I've heard the tick when de-cellerating with engine braking & comin to a stop quickly, this change might solve it.I've found the whole kit for under $400 on line. I've heard nothing but positives for this change, how about ya'll ??? By: Guest on: 2-6-2011
