- 5 years is a long time for a battery in a motorcycle...especially a bone-shaker like a Sportster. Have the battery load tested at any auto parts outlet, see if it's still got its umphh. By: 47Knuckle-Dragger on: 7-18-2011
- The H-d glass-matt,is one hell of a batt,but they ain't cheap.Like 47-knuckledragger says,that's long time on the same batt.I went to 12volt conversion on my old Duo,yrs ago,but,the vibrations just kill that 5.5amp batt,that sits in oil tank(where the 6volt once sat).Time is a wicked Mistress

- Check your negative cable on the battery. They are known to loosen up. Disconnect the negative cable where it is bolted to the engine, remove the battery with the negative cable attached, tighten the cable, and feed the battery and the cable back in, reconnect the cable to the engine. - Also check the stator and regulator. Could be a winding on the stator starting to ground out. Use a test light to check the stator, not a voltmeter... A voltmeter doesn't put out enough voltage to burn through the oil coating and can lead to a false "ok" finding. By: Guest on: 7-19-2011
