Odd Chirp sound from front end
|
| Details: |
Always when wet but sometimes dry, chirping sound from front end. Stops under acceleration, but comes back during deacceleration, even without braking. Does not appear to be brakes. |
Answers:
- Maybe you could explain more as to when it happens? When you grab the brake lever? Potholes? Happens in turns when you hit a dip? When...you explain it. By: 47Knuckle-Dragger on: 9-13-2006
- If it's wet, and you're letting off of the throttle, it's probably your belt.. It may sound as if it is coming from the front end, especially if you're wearing a full faced brain bucket... I usually use a small amount of white lithium grease in three or four places on the tooth side of the belt about 12 inches apart.. AND, "don't use any kind of petroleum based grease on your belt" By: Trigger on: 9-27-2006
- I had a bro stop by last week w/the same symptoms. He wanted me to take for a put. Before I did, Had him get on bike try to recreate, couldn't seem to get it. I checked evertything simple first. His front motor mount bolts were loose, like take out w/my fingers loose. Locktite, torque wrench and woola. Probably way off base but an easy check. Good luck. By: Bomber_Bob on: 9-29-2006
- One of my shovels is an FXSB with a rear belt. You need to be careful and make sure it is aligned accurately. I was told by someone, and then tried it, that rubbing paraffin on the sides of the belt helps. It didn't help for me. But after over 100,000 miles when my belt starts squeakin, I know that the rear axle has slipped out of adjustment. I know, I should probably replace the rear belt after 23 years...
