| What's your question? |
Carb is leaking fuel from the vent tube at an almost constant rate...I'm more experienced with EFI than carb, what am I missing?
|
| Details: |
Just bought this bike for my OL from a friend who had bought it from the first (original) owner last month. When we picked the bike up the first time, it ran like a champ, had no leaks, everything worked etc.. Now, it's pissing fuel from the vent tube on the carb (Also now has no turn signals because my friend tried to do a handle bar job by himself, and cut wires all over the place)I'm good fixing the wiring, and damn near everything else, but what am I missing as a possible cause to a pissing vent tube?
Much respect to all, and thanks for the help. |

- Replace the needle valve. I have seen the rubber tip affected by the ethanol in the gas. also check for dirt or debris in the bowl. A piece of dirt could hold the valve open. If you have a lot of debris in the bowl, install an inline fuel filter. By: Guest on: 8-2-2011
- You may want to check for debris in the tank and clean screen in there, too. By: capnbill on: 8-4-2011
- first off, if its dirt, you could try a few tricks,, rev the engine up to 3 g and block the front of the carb off. stall the engine. then tapp the fuel bowl with the end of a screw driver,, the handle..heavy.. start it up and see.. rev it up to move the dirt particle threw, if that didnt work you will have to remove the float bowl and visually inspect the viton tip and check the flat to see it it has become saturated,, lossing its float abaility.if the flat is fucked then order new and replace the o-ring, and viton tip. pay attention when assembling to float height. - Gotta agree w/Ringo on this, pretty much, but it sounds like the float/bowl needle and seat are not set right or else they're not working due to age or trash stuck there. Not really much of a prob, unless you're 300mi from home and don't have a clue.Buy a factory manual and study the spec's.It's easy we all had to start somewhere.I'd say pull the bowl and check for leakage, with the bowl, needle and seat and level of the float.Chances are,it's just something simple, due to sitting up,carb gaskets can be a bitch. - Check float also after 10years poly floats get saturated, compare by wieght to a new one. By: Guest on: 9-27-2011
- Ditto to what Ringo said...played with this all summer too...also make sure your fuel cap is venting properly. By: backbreaker on: 10-3-2011
