| What's your question? |
The brake lamp is always on.
|
| Details: |
The front brake lever is the source of the problem. When the front brake lever is released it does not make contact with the switch that shuts off the brake lamp.
This Sunday I had the master cylinder/lever/switch opened up to check things out. After putting things back together the front brake lever/brake lamp were working ok.
Today the brake lamp is on full time again, If the brake lever is pushed away from the handlebar the brake lamp will go out.
Does this sound like time to change the levers? Could the reason the brake lever is not making contact with the switch be an issue with the 'pistonm/plunger' that forces it back to the switch? A brake fluid issue? Any help is appreciated.

- if you can push the lever forward and shut off the switch, then the piston is not fully returning. You need to rebuild or replace the master cylinder. Sometimes a little crust builds up in the cylinder bore, keeping the piston from fully returning. I saw two of these in the last 3 weeks. By: Guest on: 10-23-2012
- If it's not the piston, its a short. There are two types of shorts, one before the load and one after. A short after the load will cause the lamp to stay on. Your can use a jumper wire to see if this is your problem or voltage drops on that circuit. Hope this helps. By: WINK on: 10-24-2012
- He says he can push the lever forward {away from the handlebar)and the light goes out. It's not a short. By: Guest on: 10-24-2012

- If you don't have everything lined up perfectly, you'll have this problem. By: capnbill on: 10-28-2012
