New Zealand - It was biker heaven at the South Canterbury Motorcycle Club's centennial and it proved a perfect weekend from start to finish.

No matter what your age or taste in motorcycles, there were plenty to drool over.

The event was hard to miss, with many motorcycles touring all over the province in perfect weather.

Last night 300 people packed into the Bay Hall for the gala dinner to hear guest speaker nine-times individual speedway champion Ivan Mauger.

Chris Mason, of Oamaru, was presented with the club's oldest trophy after blitzing the field on his CR570 in Saturday's shingle hill climb at Taiko.

Many other riders enjoyed taking part in motor cross, circuit racing, trials and a mystery road run, and, although no silverware was up for grabs, they blew away the cobwebs.

Always a competitor, John Hepburn, of Timaru, grabbed a couple of second places after coming out of retirement to race.

"It was a fantastic weekend, great catching up with so many and talking bikes. I guess that's why we got into it to start with."

Yesterday 250 bikes were part of the grand parade around the Timaru International Motor Raceway which was attended by more than 500 people.

Pete Collins, of Pareora, said the weekend was fantastic. "You couldn't fault anything."

Club president Chris Broadhead was delighted with the event and the positive feedback. "Everyone's worked hard as it was like organising five big events in one, but it's gone like clockwork, close to perfect."
