West Virginia - CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A Virginia businessman charged in a racketeering case targeting the Pagans Motorcycle Club has pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors.
John N. Maggio says in his plea agreement that he conspired with the club's indicted national vice president to extort almost $30,000 from two business associates last year.
Maggio pleaded guilty to the charge before U.S. District Judge Thomas Johnston in Charleston on Monday. The 47-year-old electrical contractor from Alexandria, Va., faces up to 20 years in prison when he's sentenced in March.
Maggio is one of 55 Pagans members and associates from West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Florida charged in the case, which centers on murder conspiracy, kidnapping and other charges.
