Memphis, TN - Three Memphis police officers arrested on federal bribery, extortion and conspiracy charges have been indicted by a federal grand jury.
Lt. Timothy Green and patrol officers Christopher Crawford and Michael Young are now charged in a 53-count indictment with theft or bribery, extortion and conspiracy.
The indictment, like an earlier criminal complaint, alleges the three took bribes from a nightclub owner in the Ridgeway precinct to patrol the lot of the club and also took cash in exchange for warning him of undercover police operations as well as patrol officers investigating the club. The nightspot is not identified in the indictment. Neither is the club owner.
The business was being investigated by police, including the Organized Crime Unit, for possible closure ....
