Cape May, NJ - CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE - A jury found Wildwood police Sgt. David Romeo guilty Monday of official misconduct for kicking two handcuffed suspects in the head.
Romeo, along with his family and friends in the courtroom, appeared stunned as the jury forewoman read the verdict just before 10:30 a.m.
The verdict came after about three hours of deliberation that took place Friday and Monday following a trial that included nine days of testimony and argument.
Romeo, 39, was charged with official misconduct for kicking two handcuffed suspects, Louis McCullough and Gilbert Haege, in the head after the two men had been arrested in connection with a string of car burglaries on July 24, 2007.
He will be sentenced on April 16 and faces between five to 10 years in prison for ....
