New Zealand - The Red Cross says it has no misgivings about accepting funds raised at an Auckland motorcycle gang event on Saturday.
Ride with the Angels, organised by Hells Angels 81 Nomads, leaves from Northcote with participants riding through Helensville to Puhoi.
Organisers are encouraging riders to donate $20 to the Red Cross. The breakaway gang is publicising the ride as a New Zealand first and encouraging non-members to take part.
The charity's national funding manager says Red Cross is impartial and does not judge any group offering to raise money for the community.
Alice Montague says hundreds of groups have been raising funds for Red Cross and it has always been done with the best intentions.
Waitemata road policing manager Superintendent John Kelly says police will be monitoring the ride in cars and on motorbikes to make sure it is safe and the public are not disrupted.
Mr Kelly says about 200 riders are expected to take part.
