Back to Questions

Make of Bike: Daddys
Model of Bike Custom
Year of Bike 2009
Engine Size 113 ci
Other info on Bike This bike is totally custom except for the S&S motor by Daddy and me/:)
What's your question? Took the front tubes apart!
Details: Wide glide front end - had 2in over at the top and wanted to shorten them. Put new fluid in and have shorter parts to put them together. However, I cant get it to thread once i am at the o-ring at the top. i have tried a vice, Daddy holding the shock so it doesnt compress, even up to pushing it against the wall and cinderblocks but dont want to lose my fluids at the same time. Handlebars arent on so cant install it from the top down on the bike right now. I am thinking that now the spring is too long with too much compression and i dont have enough ass behind me to push it down like i did with the longer ends. Any tricks you can help me out with would be appreciated. Daddys not a big dude so we are at a loss..... Respects suzi aka tat

  1. Hey Tat, If you put on shorter tubes, you may need to shorten the springs also...can you mount them in the trees and gain leverage by working downward while the bike is supported under the front end?....sorry, but we have a tool that aids in this procedure, but that is not helping you right now huh?? lol If your tubes were shortened considerably, you will have to also shorten the springs....you CAN cut them if need be. PM me with more info on what you guys are doing to shorten the front and I will try to help further..hired By: hired on: 3-19-2009

  2. As an aside - the things were bought with the shorter ones first. I just cant cut the spring, they came that way at one time unless having them 2in over last yr straightened out the spring some. Daddy took to work and the big dude couldnt even get it. I tried it on the trees and no fucking go. Gonna have to drain the fluid and do it upside down then fill the damn thing up again>???? suzi aka tat By: tat2d142 on: 3-20-2009

  3. Did you hold lowers upside down as sometimes folks put spacers in to lengthen tubes...quick cheap and easy. They should fall out on floor if they're in there. By: shoveljohn on: 3-22-2009

  4. if you do get it together with the springs that tight it will just bang itself apart when the front end extends out...just go ahead and cut the springs, it won't hurt anything, get it together and try it... By: Guest on: 3-22-2009

  5. Thanx for your help fellas. Yes, there were the damn spacers in there. SO, since i took the fluid out (once again). W/we just put em together upside down slick as shit. On to the next project- lots of fabrication and welding, metalwork and sanding. ....Respects to all of ya - suzi aka tat By: tat2d142 on: 3-23-2009

  6. Shorten the spring spacers. They are usually made of PVC pipe. By: Guest on: 3-24-2009
